No chance for this 'Dance'

While 3 Idiots still continue to rock at the Indian box-office, the first three weeks of January has gone without a single film making a mark both with the audience as well at the box-office.

But with UTV's Chance Pe Dance, there was a ray of hope, primarily because the film was touted to be a tale of a talented struggler and secondly it was the first film when two teen heart-throbs Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D'souza were coming together on the big screen.

The promos depicted the struggler in Shahid and nothing extra-ordinary was expected of the film except that people wanted to see the chemistry of the lead pair Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D'souza.

Chance Pe Dance' title was cheesy: Shahid Kapoor

New Delhi, Jan 11 : Shahid Kapoor says he loved being part of "Chance Pe Dance", but feels that the title of the film is "cheesy".

"We were looking for a title for the film for a very long time. There was this one title we wanted, which was 'Yahoo', but because the rights lie with yahoo.com we couldn't really get that.

"So, one day I got a message from Ken (Ghosh) asking how is 'Chance Pe Dance'? I said cheesy but we really don't have an option so let's go ahead with it. However, I've loved being a part of the film and I've enjoyed the process thoroughly," Shahid told reporters here.

The actor, who was in the Capital with co-star Genelia D'Souza and director Ken Ghosh to support the "Chance Pe Dance" collaboration with Fanta, launched a special edition bottle to promote the film.

Strugglers will relate to Chance Pe Dance: Shahid

Shahid Kapoor says his forthcoming film Chance Pe Dance tells the tale of strugglers waiting for their big break. And the actor reveals he could relate to the character as he too was rejected at many auditions and even had to sleep in his car for a whole night.

"It's a very realistic film on strugglers. The story of the film flows through such a situation that any struggler can identify with whether he is struggling as an engineer, doctor or as a lawyer," said Shahid.

Directed by Ken Ghosh, Chance Pe Dance revolves around a talented young struggling actor Sameer (Shahid). Positive and brimming with energy, Sameer juggles various jobs while working towards getting his big break in films. During his struggle, he meets Tina (Genelia D'Souza), a choreographer.

Will CHANCE PE DANCE become Shahid's DDLJ?

Shahid Kapoor is a serious contender for one of the coveted top positions in the Hindi film industry, and with some solid solo hits he is certainly knocking at the doors of the top five bracket.

However, the heartthrob of countless female fans has never been given him his due, may be because he does not have that huge all time blockbuster to his credit, despite VIVAAH and JAB WE MET. So, will CHANCE PE DANCE prove to be the film which will propel him in to the top five?

Well, chances are that this may happen soon, especially because in Bollywood history repeats itself.

"I don't get affected by rumours and gossips about my love life" - Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor isn't resting. He has already seen two of his films releasing in 2009 (Kaminey, Dil Bole Hadippa), is currently shooting for Parmeet Sethi's film with Anushka Sharma, and is busy promoting Chance Pe Dance which arrives in January next year.

Meanwhile, even as names of his past, present and perhaps future girlfriends continue to emerge at a break neck speed, he prays if a Vivah organized by his parents would finally settle all rumours, speculations, gossips, grapevine and idle talk once for and all.

Joginder Tuteja gets into a conversation with Shahid who has been super busy shooting for his films but is still managing to keep a close tab on the promotion of Chance Pe Dance as well as reactions to his newest on-screen partner Genelia D'Souza.

Chance Pe Dance music review

EXPECTATIONS

When the title of a film comprises of the word 'dance', it is bound to raise good expectations. More so when the actor starring in it is none other than Shahid Kapoor who is one of the best dancers that Bollywood has today. Add to that the fact that both Ishq Vishk and Fida, director Ken Ghosh's last two films, boasted of some fabulous tracks that are played till date, expectations only soar further. Coming in of a new composer-lyricist 'jodi' in the town - Adnan Sami and Irfan Siddiqui - makes one further look forward to what the duo has to offer.

5 reasons to watch ‘Chance Pe Dance’

Shahid Kapoor's real life story

According to director Ken Ghosh, 'Chance Pe Dance' is somewhat based on Shahid’s life. Though Shahid has denied that Chance Pe Dance is autobiographical in nature entirely, he has agreed that there are some similarities. For example scenes in the film where he has been shown as a struggling actor is pretty much like his own life, when he started off.

Shahid has changed: Ken Ghosh

Ken Ghosh admits he had loud arguments with Shahid Kapoor on the sets during the shooting of Chance Pe Dance.

But it had to do with Shahid’s suddenly-saturated schedules. Says Ken, “For the first time in his career Shahid was doing three films at the same time—Kaminey, Dil Bole Hadippa and my film Chance Pe Dance. Naturally there was a conflict of interest.”

Ken admits there were loud arguments over Shahid’s schedules. "I’d ask for three days. He would have only one day to spare. I’d naturally be upset. Then understandably, Shahid wanted time off. He couldn’t be seen on my set straight after shooting for one of the other two films. This naturally led to heated arguments. For me as a director it was okay to come on the sets without sleep. But Shahid had to catch up on his resting time. Or the dark circles would have shown on camera. And since Shahid is fair-complexioned those dark circles would be even more visible."

Pritam to the rescue

Will provide promotional track for Chance Pe Dance to add zing to the music

Despite having Adnan Sami on board scoring the music for Shahid Kapoor-Genelia D'Souza starrer Chance Pe Dance, Pritam has been approached to give the film that one-hit track that can be used as a promotional tool.

Pritam has a record string of hit tracks (all the way from APKGK's Main Tera Dhadkan Teri, SIK's Jee Karda to JWM's Mauja Hi Mauja) was approached because Adnan's tracks did not have the desired results. Also since the film is about music. It is essential to have that one chartbuster song.
