In a village where girls don't play cricket, Veera (Rani Mukherjee) has to put on a turban and beard and become a man to fulfill her dreams. Her brilliance on the field earns her a place in Rohan's (Shahid Kapoor) team and Veera Kaur becomes Veer Pratap Singh and what follows is a hide and seek game of romance, passion and dreams.

Dil Bole "Wah Wah" - Shobha De

In other words, I LOVED the film, even if the title sucks, and Rani is more Bubbli than Veera! But it is Shahid who captures hearts with a slick and cerebral performance in a movie that is supposed to belong to (ghar ki) Rani. Not that Aditya Chopra's girl does not deliver. Rani is superb as Veer Pratap, but as Veera, it is yesterday once more. Plus, the close- ups are a little cruel. The thing about Rani is that she has blinded us with her wholesome appeal over years, and it is impossible to switch gears and accept her in an ill -fitting gold bikini top. Kyon???? You want to scream. Leave that to the hungry bimbettes who need the exposure ( pun!). Rani is way above the rest in the histrionics game, and she isn't going to woo new admirers by stripping. By the time the credits roll and the bikini-harem pants finally come on, the audience is already in love with her. Besides, the work that has gone into her performance is equally evident, when she hits those balls out of the field. The script is king , here. What an unusual story, and how cleverly executed, minus any artificiality ( if you can ignore Rakhi Sawant and some horsy creature called Sonia, clad in lame hot pants). This is the sort of 'family entertainment' that has been ignored for too long by our hot shot producers busy chasing ludicrous plots and action thrillers sans logic. It is very much an old- fashioned, sweetly chaste, unapologetic 'sarson da saga', more Punjabi than makki di roti, but equally palatable. The OTT Yash Raj touches are everywhere, particularly in a silly 'date' sequence, in which Shahid takes over a typical dhaba to woo his 'Buffalo Girl', no, not with lassi , rabri and jalebis alone, but a chilled bottle of Moet! The 'Nautanki' dressing room resembles a Baz Lurhmann set from 'Moulin Rouge', or at least the dressing rooms of the ongoing Lakme India Fashion Week. Some nautanki company, this!! To justify it, Rakhi Sawant performs a sizzling item number that leaves Bipasha Basu's 'Bidi', in its packet... or at the gatepost. Rani as Veer Pratap, matches her step for step in this wonderfully choreographed number. As for Shahid's hot moves and his SRK take- off - the man struts his stuff with absolute panache. He could so easily replace ALL the Khans with his freshness in this role. Far more convincing here than in that embarrassingly gauche, stutter-lisp 'Kaminey' double dholki. His bod looks hot - all compact abs and strong tennis wrists. Let's hope success doesn't corrupt this young actor. He could be the 21st century Dilip Kumar. As for Rani..... darling, you proved your point. You are the best. Now, will you just go off and get married, please? And yes, leave those LBDs to the wannabes. Stick to patialas and mojris - nobody wears them better.

Shobha De, thanks so much for not being a sheep :) Now that is a bit of an overly elevated status for Shahid, but we don't mind at all! Though I still don't agree with your review/thoughts on Kaminey, I still thank you for your ever so original opinions. Shahid as Charlie was awefome and not for one minute I thought of him as Shahid Kapoor, he was Charlie all the way! -Sarah

Shahid turns 'politically correct'!
|
He may have delivered a double dose in Kaminey, but Shahid Kapoor is content playing second fiddle to Rani Mukherji in Dil Bole Hadippa! “Not every film would be a Kaminey for me.
I think the film is being promoted for what it is. I am just five-years-old in the industry, so I’m welcoming all sorts of offers that come my way,” he says, adding, “I have a significant part to play and I have lived up to it.”
Ask him about his reaction to actor Salman Khan calling him a politically correct person after he went to Khan’s show, Dus Ka Dum and pat comes the reply, “I don’t try to be politically correct, but if I have bagged such a title, it just means that whatever I say happens to be correct and I can’t do anything about it. I don’t think one should necessarily make statements that brew controversies.”

Dil Bole Hadippa! is a very audience friendly film: Shahid Kapoor
|
Shahid Kapoor talks about Dil Bole Hadippa!, working with Rani Mukherji twice over, and why the audience should go and watch this movie
Shahid, do you feel tired promoting the film extensively almost everywhere?
Yes, I am feeling little bit tired but I am good.
In all your past films, your name was linked invariably with all the actresses of your film but this has not happened with Dil Bole Hadippa!. No one has linked your name with Rani Mukherji, you must be feeling happy?
I am really feeling very happy that my name has not been linked this time. I have no idea how it happened this time around but I am very happy about it. It is a very refreshing change and I think media got bored this time.
Well, it′s not essential ingredient of stardom. Any married star is not able to lead a happy life because of such things but these things do happen may be no one knows about my personal life for the past couple of years but I have got used to it. I will go mad if I were to try analyzing the reasons.

Dil Bole Hadippa Movie Review
|
Filmicafe.com, 14 September 2009 | By Samia Siddiqui
Following the phenomenal success of New York, Yash Raj Films returns with the much anticipated 'Dil Bole Hadippa'. With many expectations and questions tied to the film. Will Yash Raj`s winning streak continue after the success of New York? Will Rani Mukherjee be able to deliver an equally stellar performance as Veer and Veera? Is the Rani and Shahid Jodi`s chemistry quotient high? The plethora of questions are answered with a resounding-Yes! Dil Bole Hadippa is a highly enjoyable, light-hearted family film with a theme that connects with one and all-Cricket.
The film does give one a sense of déjà vu with the essence of a typical Yash Raj Film where you are taken back to the days of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Veer Zaara and many other Yash Raj classics. Dil Bole Hadippa is a light hearted romantic comedy which touches on serious issues in our society such as gender biases and inequality existent in society, but does so in a very light-hearted manner.

Shahid Kapoor: HADIPPA is a complete contrast to KAMINEY
|
Even though he has worked in films across varied genres, the lover boy image seems to be stuck around Shahid Kapoor, courtesy his recent successes like KISMAT KONNECTION, JAB WE MET and VIVAAH.
"Even when I was on the verge of signing KAMINEY, people discouraged me. Since on paper itself it sounded such a different film, I was advised that I should follow a conventional route and do more love stories. People felt that I was on a wrong path by signing on something experimental when I should have rather consolidated my image as a lover boy. I am glad I took a firm stand though because I sincerely believe that audiences today want a change", explains Shahid.
He isn't turning his back away from romantic films though.

Prince Charming Shahid saves Rakhi Sawant’s life
|
Trash talk Queen Miss. Sawant is mulling over Shahid Kapoor in her upcoming flick Dil Bole Hadippa. The reason behind all the hulla-gulla is that Shahid had saved her life during the shoot of a song sequence Discowale Khisko...
In an interview Rakhi stated, “Today I’m alive, and that is just because of Shahid. I was about to meet with a fatal accident when he came to my rescue.”

"Kaminey was a big risk" - Shahid Kapoor
|
Kaminey is a good success, both critically as well as commercially, and now all of a sudden Shahid Kapoor finds himself in the super big league. While the Khans (Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman) have been dominating from the top along with Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan, the success of Kaminey means that both Shahid Kapoor as well as Saif Ali Khan (who again delivered a huge money spinner in Love Aaj Kal) are already making actors in the Top-5 uncomfortable. As this Vishal Bhardwaj film continues to fetch audiences and reactions for itself in it's second week, Joginder Tuteja catches up with Shahid Kapoor who feels that the biggest success point for Kaminey is the fact that massy as well as niche audiences have given a Thumbs Up to a subject and a genre that has been hitherto unexplored.

His new look and physique, followed by the tag of the sexiest vegetarian in Asia by PETA, Shahid Kapoor is surely on the roll with four releases up his sleeve…
“Rumours and controversies are to be taken with a pinch of salt,” says 28-year-old Shahid Kapoor, who seems to have matured much before time. The actor says that he never takes whatever appears in the newspapers seriously. After Kareena Kapoor, he was linked up with Vidya Balan and then there were talks of a break-up with Priyanka Chopra with whom he was linked up with lately, followed by a buzz about director Ken Ghosh and he being up in arms against each other while shooting for the latter’s untitled film. “Actually I am a problem child. Wherever I step in, trouble starts brewing there. In fact, most of the fights that Ken and I have are whether or not he should eat non-vegetarian food whenever we go out for dinner together,” laughs Shahid , who has been adjudged as the sexiest vegetarian in Asia as per PETA. The poll was conducted by PETA in their Asia-Pacific portal. Shahid, however, reminded that this would be their third film together after Ishq Vishk and Fida and that they have always been good friends. “Friends have the right to fight and make up,” he grins.
