Shah Rukh Khan, who invariably goes home with some of the top honours every time he attends an awards ceremony, will make an appearance at one for a different reason this year. The actor will host the upcoming 14th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in Macau. Shahid
Kapoor will be joining him on stage as his co-host. However, this won’t be the first time Shahid and Shah Rukh will come together for such an event. The duo has previously hosted two editions of another film awards function in 2010 and 2012.
“I have hosted with SRK sir before and it’s always a privilege sharing a platform with him,” says Shahid, who anchored IIFA with Farhan Akhtar last year. “I had a blast and Farhan was a great co-host. I will miss him this year.”
Incidentally, Shah Rukh last anchored the IIFA Awards eight years ago (in 2005, in Amsterdam) with filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Fardeen Khan. He also performed at the 2004 and 2011 editions of the function, in Singapore and Toronto, Canada, respectively. This year, however, the organisers are not sure whether SRK will be in a condition to shake a leg on stage, as the actor recently underwent surgery for his injured shoulder. His right shoulder is currently in a brace and he has been advised complete rest by the doctor.
While actors like Deepika Padukone, Madhuri Dixit and Abhishek Bachchan are also expected at the event, director-choreographer Prabhudheva will perform a dance-off of sorts with Sridevi.
After Akshay Kumar (in Rowdy Rathore) and Sonakshi Sinha (in OMG - Oh My God!), Shahid Kapoor is all set to shake a leg with Prabhu Dheva. The song, Gandi Baat, will be a part of the duo's upcoming film Rambo Rajkumar.
"The dance sequence will be a part of Prabhu Dheva's next directorial venture, Rambo Rajkumar. The film stars Shahid and as he is a fabulous dancer it was decided to include a song featuring the duo. The shooting of the movie has already started," says a source close to the film.
Confirming the news, Prabhu Dheva said: "It is a peppy number and I am pretty excited about it. Shahid and I have already begun rehearsing." Matching steps with the acclaimed dancer and choreographer is no mean task, and Shahid, a trained dancer, said: "I am looking forward to shooting the dance number with Prabhu Sir. His style is very new to me. But, I am enjoying every bit of the challenge."
Both Prabhu Dheva and Shahid are putting their best foot forward. The song has been set to tune by Pritam and the source said: "Although, it is the first time Pritam will have Prabhu Dheva dance to his tune, with Shahid, he has already had hits like Mauja Hi Mauja (Jab We Met) and Aai Pappi (Kismat Konnection)."
Elaborating on the song, Pritam said: "For Prabhu Dheva and Shahid, we needed a track that is high on tempo and energy. We are confident that Gandi Baat will be loved by all."
Viki Rajani, who is producing the film along with Eros, is happy to see the team come together for this song, which is being pitched as one of the highlights of the film. "This is the first time to bring two of the topnotch dancers of the industry together. I am sure Gandi Baat will be a song to remember."
After south actress Priya Mani's dance number with Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan in Chennai Express, it now the turn of actress Charmme to follow suit. The actress who has worked on a couple of Hindi films in the past, will do her first B-town special number with actor Shahid Kapoor in his upcoming film Rambo Rajkumar.
"I'm in Mumbai because from today, I start shooting for my first-ever mass number in Hindi in the movie Rambo Rajkumar. Thanks to Prabhudheva. He's the director," said Charmme in one of the voice updates yesterday that she posted online. Talking about the actor she will be dancing with, she said, "I will be dancing with Shahid Kapoor. For the last four days we have been rehearsing a lot because this is a proper 'mass' dance number that we are shooting for. I'm very excited, as this is my first special song."
When Prabhu Dheva wanted a ‘raw and rugged’ Shahid for his film, the actor's veg diet posed a small challenge.
There is a lot riding on Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming releases – Phataa Poster Nikla Hero and Rambo Rajkumar. Especially the latter, which is directed by Prabhu Dheva, who has managed to revive many a sagging Bollywood career.
An action-packed commercial film, Rambu Rajkumar sees Shahid revive his lucky Kaminey look — remember that shot in which he raced with galloping horses?
The actor reportedly underwent a rigorous training for almost six months to master the build of a street-smart rogue.
The idea was to make him look like a desi Stallone, say sources, as Shahid plays a local gangster who considers Rambo his role model. Prabhu Dheva’s brief to Shahid’s trainer: 'Make him look raw but not overly chiselled.’
The makers wanted to avoid the usual six-packs, that appear more cosmetically enhanced than something meticulously constructed. And Shahid trained in Mixed Martial Arts and Parkour to attain the required flexibility.
When Mirror contacted Shahid’s trainer Abbas Ali, he admitted it was quite a challenge: “The biggest limitation was that Shahid is a vegetarian. I had to customise a diet in such a way that he gets the desired look, with a lot more focus on the regular dal, subzi, cottage cheese, brown rice, salad and yoghurt.”
Not just that, the actor who was shooting in Panchgani was required to start his day at 5 in the morning, followed by an intensive 90-minute workout session, after which he would drive to the location which was about two hours away from where the crew was put up.
After finishing the day’s shoot, the actor would return to the hotel, and head straight to the gym, sweating out till 11 in the night. Since the cast was shooting in remote areas, there was absolutely no access to a well-equipped gym.
To sort out this logistical problem, Prabhu Dheva ensured that whatever equipment was required by the trainer — from Olympic plates to dumbbells — was carried over in a separate van.
But where exactly was the makeshift gym created? “We converted the wedding halls and conference rooms of the local hotels as they didn’t have any gym area. Shahid is such a flexible guy, he can even work out in a bus-stop; he had no reservations at all,” says Abbas.
After every shot, the actor took a 15-minute break to cool down, as a continuous action scene meant a severe ligament tear or a bad muscle strain. But despite these measures, the actor ended up injuring his chin, which left him out of function for almost three days. “But he is extremely motivated.
Even when he is not required, he comes to the gym by instinct. It’s a part of his system,” says an impressed Abbas. Rambo Rajkumar, shot extensively in Panchgani, Satara and Wai is expected to release in September and also features Sonakshi Sinha in a leading role.
He already has hordes of fans (especially women), but two of his contemporaries — Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh — may just be the most memorable ones of the lot for actor Shahid Kapoor.
While shooting for their film, Gunday, in Wathar, Maharashtra, Ranveer and Arjun decided to play a prank on Shahid, who was shooting in the same stretch for Prabhudheva’s Rambo Rajkumar. The latter was shooting on top of a truck. An insider from the Gunday unit recalls, “We had packed up a little late, so Ranveer and Arjun had their make-up on while heading back to the hotel. They were covered in soot, coal and mud from head to toe. When they were passing by the spot where Shahid was shooting, they thought of the prank.”
The actors decided to surprise Shahid by hanging out of their car’s windows, pretending to be fans. “They started yelling and saying things like, ‘Aye hero, idhar dekh’ and ‘Shahid, oh my God, I love you’,” adds the insider.
At first, Shahid, Prabhudheva and their entire unit were stunned on two strange-looking men covered in coal shouting loudly. “But once they realised the men were Arjun and Ranveer, they all had a hearty laugh together,”adds the insider.
Apparently, all three actors were also put up in the same hotel and they bonded at the gym after their shoot. They even had dinner together that night. We tried to reach them for a comment, but they remained unavailable.
Now buzz is that Pankaj Kapur and Shahid are all set to appear in a film together.
While Kapur has already worked with Shahid before, directing his son in Mausam, this will be the first time the two will share screen space.
Insiders say that Rajkumar Santoshi, who is currently directing Shahid in another project, will be helming the father-son duo film. With it, Santoshi will be reviving his long-cherished dream of making a film on Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nahin Dekhya Woh Jamiya Nahin.
Incidentally, sources say that the director had wanted to initially cast Sanjay Dutt in the lead role, when he first thought of making this film five years ago.
Our source says, “Santoshi has always wanted to make this film. He had even planned to make a huge set of Lahore city at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Rao studios but the film got stuck for some reason that time. He has now apparently spoken to both Shahid and Pankaj for the film.”
Our SMSes sent to Shahid, Kapur and Santoshi went unanswered.
Salman Khan will share screen space with Shahid Kapoor for the first time in Rajkumar Santoshi’s upcoming film, Phata Poster Nikla Hero.
The Dabangg (2010) star will be seen in a special appearance in the movie, in which Shahid plays the role of a police officer. “They shot for the scene together over the last weekend at a suburban studio. The shoot lasted for six hours or so,” reveals a source close to the production house.
However, details of Khan’s role are being kept under wraps. “Rajkumar wants it to be a surprise for the audience. So, no one, apart from the actors involved in the scene, is aware of what his role is.”
Apparently, after Salman finished shooting his portion, he stayed back on the sets for the rest of the day. The source adds, “He and Rajkumar are really close friends, so he was catching up with him. In fact, he even spent a few hours bonding with Shahid. They were seen chit-chatting for quite some time after the shoot.” The film’s female lead, Ileana D’Cruz, will not be part of the scene.
While most of the film’s shooting has been finished, an insider says that they have another month’s work left to complete. When contacted, Shahid’s spokesperson confirms the news, saying, “Yes, Shahid and Salman shot together a few days ago.”
The fire accident on the sets of Prabhudheva's Rambo Rajkumar earlier this week here was not as minor as it is being made out to be. Shahid Kapoor is said to have got burn injuries on his back and hand, and he would need some time to recover fully. "We were shooting a fire sequence when the chemical used to create the fire went awry. It singed Shahid's shoulder and hand. It could've been worse. Thankfully nothing serious happened," said a source close to the film.
Meanwhile, the stunts in Rambo Rajkumar are getting more and more dare-devilish as Prabhudheva wants them to be one-up on what Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar did in Wanted and Rowdy Rathore, respectively.
"When Shahid decided to do his first action film, he had to make sure the stunts were of the never-before variety. That's why he waited so long to do an action film and even opted out of his friend Siddharth Anand's Bang Bang," said the source.
It is little known that Bang Bang was a project that was planned with Shahid.
The source said: "But then somewhere down the line Shahid preferred Prabhu's project as his first attempt at the action genre. Bang Bang is a remake of a Tom Cruise actioner Knight and Day and Shahid didn't want his stunts to be compared with Cruise. Rambo Rajkumar is an original."
When contacted, Prabhudheva refrained from commenting on the injury, but he mentioned that he's taking a break with his two sons.
"We're going to Australia for a holiday. During my vacation with my kids, I'll also unveil the first look of Girish Taurani's debut film Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya," he said.
Actor Shahid Kapoor, who has been shooting hardcore action sequences for Prabhudheva's 'Rambo Rajkumar', managed to escape a serious injury.
It happened on Friday when the 32-year-old was shooting at Kamalistan Studio for a scene where he has to enter a burning house.
He finished his shot and was stepping out of the burning house, when some hot chemical solution dripped on to his back and arms.
"The fire is created artificially through a chemical solution... The solution fell on his back and forearms. The solution was hot and it immediately burnt holes in Shahid's t-shirt. He half sprinted while removing his t-shirt," said a source.
The actor has got some burn marks. He later visited a dermatologist to ensure the wounds heal quickly.
