Who made Shahid feel old?

Shahid Kapoor was rehearsing for a performance at Film City the other day when he spotted a dancer in his troupe doing some brilliant moves.

Post the performance, Shahid asked the boy where he’d learned dancing. To the actor’s utter surprise the young boy told him that Shahid was his teacher! Shahid was clearly taken aback with this smart comeback from the boy.

The boy then reminded Shahid that he was as high as Shahid’s waist at the classes, with curly hair and a thin frame ... and also showed Shahid his own signature move! It was then that Shahid remembered the little boy of 12 who eight years later, is nearly 20, and a full-fledged dancer. Shahid also went into the crowd and met the boy’s mum and told her how at 28 he felt old, seeing a kid he had taught grow up to become such an awesome dancer. Unlike his heroines, Shahid is at least ready to admit his age.

Shahid makes a start!

Shahid Kapoor took six months just to confirm a friend request on Facebook. But that's normal considering that Shahid was known for his aversion towards social networking sites. But it seems that now the tide has turned because Shahid is always connected to his Facebook and Twitter accounts and is constantly upgrading his "status". Shahid made his formal debut on Twitter last Friday.

"I got addicted to it in less than 24 hours! I was never into this at all. In fact, I never bothered about Facebook and Twitter. But now I am tweeting many times during the day," says Shahid. Shahid is right -- the actor took six months just to confirm one friend request on Facebook!

Shahid Unplugged

Shahid Kapoor loves his dog and single status and doesn’t mind the perks and pitfalls of stardom. The star who believes in wearing his attitude on his Tees, dropped by at the Screen office for a cuppa and some heartwarming chat. Excerpts from the livewire session that followed

I play a dancer in the film. Chance Pe Dance reminded me about my past. It is about struggling actors. About a guy who is trying to make it big. It’s about getting a chance to dance. There are scenes where he is getting rejected in auditions and I could relate to that. Sometimes when you go for an audition, in the middle of the dialogue they say ‘Ab bas, next’ and believe me it is a terrible feeling. You feel like somebody has slapped you across your face. Also in the film I have a second-hand Zen and back then, when I was struggling, I had a second-hand Maruti 800. This was before Ishq Vishk released. All budding actors would meet up for rehearsals every evening and I would be one of them. Even character artistes who came for the rehearsals would come in their Honda Citys and big cars. I would be so embarrassed to see those cars that I would park mine right at the end. I connect with that part in the film. But now I have a Range Rover. When I look back at the time I did my first music video, I feel fortunate. Not many people make it to the top and I am so glad I didn’t give up.

Sweet and sexy

YOU know you're a star when women demand that you peel off your shirt or watch your movie - the same one - three times in a night.

Shahid Kapoor, 28, has had both happen to him.

Last week, the rising star of the Hindi movie business was shooting a beach scene in Thailand for his yet untitled new film when a group of female fans showed up and clamoured for him to take his vest off.

While Shah Rukh Khan would have had a witty comeback and Salman Khan would have possibly obliged, Shahid who recently went topless in Kaminey and showed off his gym-honed pectorals in Dil Bole Hadippa was embarrassed. So much so, he had to retreat to his vanity van till the fans were escorted away by the security guards.
loads of charisma," she said.

Bodcast

Shahid was mortified when some female fans repeatedly insisted, ‘Ganji nikal na. Bas kya?’ while he was shooting in Bangkok yesterday

Shahid Kapoor has set some rather high standards for himself by baring his chiselled body in Kaminey. And it’s something that he finds is not so easy to live up to. Take for instance what transpired on a beach in Bangkok, yesterday morning. A group of Indian girls on the beach demanded that Shahid should completely bare his upper torso for them.

The unusual demand happened on the sets of Yash Raj Films’ next being directed by Parmeet Sethi. Shahid was shooting for a song where he had to take off his shirt while running out of the sea dressed in a vest and shorts. As soon as he took off his shirt, the girls started saying out loud: “Ganji (vest) bhi nikalo, jaldi ganji bhi nikalo’.

Shahid, known for his reticence, was horrified. An eyewitness says, “Shahid didn’t know where to look. He looked at Parmeet expecting him to tell the girls to stop passing comments.”

The evolution of Shasha!

Five reasons why Shahid Kapur is now OFFICIALLY a superstar... by Sonali Raha

Shahid Kapur has come of age, with "Kaminey" pleasing everyone – stuffy critics as well as demanding fans. We tell you why Shasha is finally a superstar!

-- Shahid is constantly under the media spotlight, with every smile, every raise of an eyebrow and every word being dissected and analysed. We at Masala! confess: we’re getting a tad obsessed ourselves with this cuter-than-a-teddy hero.
-- His list of ex-es is getting long and interesting. Every GF, from Bebo to Sania and Prinks, has been a hottie and an achiever in her own right. (We’re sort of forgetting Vidya right now!) Only superstars have A-list link-ups, right?
-- Big production houses are willing to back him all the way. UTV’s "Kaminey" trailers focussed more on Shahid than even Priyanka, the heroine of the moment. And now Yash Raj Films is all set to explode on the screen with the Shahid-Rani "Dil Bole Hadippa".
--Adi Chopra has cast Shasha in Rani’s comeback film – that’s the biggest testimonial you can get!
-- Shahid can act, actually get into the skin of a character. We knew it right from "Jab We Met", although Bebo ran away with all the awards. His twin role in "Kaminey" now makes this official.
-- And finally... Shasha has taken his shirt off! Seen running with the horses and pumping iron in "Kaminey", his new bod can give even "Ghajini" Aamir and "OSO" Shah Rukh a mega complex.

For Shahid Kapoor 'F' words are a part of life!

Shahid Kapoor's speech defect in KAMINEY is now a fashion statement, and is being copied by the young and old. The actor not only essayed both his speech defect roles to perfection, but with the cute way in which he spoke, he won all the hearts, and we can now hear many trying to emulate his style by substituting 's' with 'f'.

School children, and especially the youth have picked up his style and made it into a fashion statement. We have had fans emulating hairstyles, dresses and walking, dancing styles of their favourite actors, but this is the first time in the history of cinema that the mannerisms relating to speech defect are being aped by so many.

In fact, people even go to the extent of calling out to Shahid when they see him, by asking, 'Arre, Fahid, kaifa hai tu yaar?" and Shahid simply enjoys all the attention. Recently, in an interview to a leading daily, he admitted that it was really very nice to know that people find him synonymous to his character of Charlie in KAMINEY.

Well, Shahid it's your charm that has ensured that your latest Eid release, DIL BOLE HADIPPA, has shown decent collections, despite a super strong challenger in the form of Salman Khan's much hyped WANTED. Way to go, man.

There is no rift between me and Salman Bhai: Shahid Kapoor

There have been rumours of Salman having a rift with a number of celebrities. If it was Viveik Oberoi one day, it was SRK the next day. Then it was Aamir Khan's turn some other day. In fact, Salman and controversies have been going hand in hand for a long time now.

The latest one in the list seems to be Shahid Kapoor, who along with co-star Rani Mukherjee was invited to Sallu Miyan's Dus Ka Dum. Rumours doing the rounds claim that while Rani was given a warm welcome on the show, Shahid was given a cold shoulder. Even during the actual game, apparently Salman was constantly encouraging Rani to perform better, but when it came to Shahid it was a very moderate reaction. Rumour mills have been working overtime to find out the reason behind this and speculate on what next.

TellyChakkar managed to speak to Shahid himself about the rumour. "I don't know how such things spread. Nothing like this happened on the show. This is completely untrue," was the first reaction from the handsome hero whose career is northbound after the critical mass acclaim of Kaminey.

The curious case of Shahid Kapoor- Ages from 28 to 22!

Don’t get confused as we are talking of Shahid’s upcoming flick with Yash Raj Films, where he is supposed to look much younger than his age. For this, the handsome lad has worked equally hard and has gained the perfect look that was demanded of him.

In Kaminey he has build a well-toned body and dons a macho man look. On the other hand, in his next flick with Yash Raj and Anushka Sharma, the actor has slimmed down and is looking very young.

“I work according to my scripts and the character that I am portraying. In Kaminey I needed a good physique for which I have worked for almost a year and sacrifice on my liking of food. Where as, in my next film with Anushka, I need to look much younger so I have done sacrifices over there too,” rues the young lad.

Shahid Kapur: I am happy to be single

“I am single and quite happy. When I am in a relationship and it is substantial enough for me to want to spend the rest of my life with her, people will come to know,” said the soft-spoken actor.

Priyanka recently said that Shahid is a good friend of hers. Hearing this, Shahid joked, “Now she has said that I am her good friend. Even if I want, things won’t move forward between us because she considers me only a friend!”

That doesn’t stop him from talking about Priyanka’s prowess as an actress. “When I started working with Priyanka, I thought she was a good actor. After we finished shooting the film, I thought she was a very, very good actor. She is on a creative high right now, doing better roles and movies than before.”

People curious about Rani & me: Shahid

It was left to Ritiesh Deshmukh to be the one to bring the glad tidings to Shahid Kapoor . The young actor, who has three releases this year in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminey (August 14), Aditya Chopra’s Dil Bole Hadippa! (September 18) and Ken Ghosh’s Yahoo (year end), has been nominated as Best Actor for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Award 2009. Shahid, whose performance in 2007’s Jab We Met is still being discussed, blushed, “I’m too young to be receiving such a big honour, but I’m also humbled.’’

He is happy, also, with the promos of Kaminey and Dil Bole Hadippa! which are on air currently. “They are absolutely contrasting,’’ said the actor thrilled to be able to showcase his entire oeuvre this year. “And the cherry on the cake is the fact that Yahoo has me doing what I love best — dancing! Four years of all that I learned in dance has gone into this one film.’’

While the Kaminey promotions carry the buzz of his reported affair with Priyanka Chopra, Shahid felt, “Dil Bole Hadippa! has an edge because people are inquisitive about Rani Mukerji and me. They want to know more about our screen chemistry.’’

He is also happy to team up with the seasonal flavour Genelia D’Souza in Yahoo and said, “Finally I’m in a space where I can do whatever I wish as far as my roles go.’’
