I did Paathshaala for the message: Shahid

Actor Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen as a school teacher in director Milind Ukey's "Paathshaala", says he has not done the film for any commercial reason, but the message of the film inspired him to be associated with it.

"We really want this film to be seen by people because it is saying something good. I haven't done this film for commercial reasons. I don't think Ahmad (Khan) made this for commercial reasons. We just believe in what the film is saying, we wanted to reach out to people," Shahid told reporters here Sunday. "People don't pick up a subject about children, the education system and try and make a film about it. You try and make a documentary and it becomes boring," he said.

Shahid Kapoor makes Ahmed Khan's kids happy

Choreographer Ahmed Khan is back from the US after months' of shooting for a song with his best-friend Shahid Kapoor.

And Ahmed just can't stop singing his star-pal's praises, for the generosity Shahid showed in the US. The actor actually made sure Ahmed Khan's kids got a long-cherished dream to come true.

Says Ahmed fondly, ''I had been promising my two sons Azaan and Subhan a trip to Disneyland for months. Earlier when we shot in the US for another Yash Raj Film Bachna Ae Haseeno, I kept hoping there would be time. But I couldn't manage to get away. But this time, Shahid made sure it happened.''

My role in 'Paathshala' is just about 30-40 minutes

Shahid Kapoor's 'Paathshala', which has been ready for the last one year, will finally hit screens next year and the actor says his role is substantial even though it is not long enough.

''Paathshala' is small in comparison to some other films that I am doing. Moreover, I not a quintessential hero in the film. However, it isn't as if I have a special appearance in the film, as has been speculated by some. I have a substantial role that lasts for 30-40 minutes in the film,' Shahid, who had two releases -- 'Kaminey' and 'Dil Bole Hadippa' this year --, told IANS.

'Paathshala' was earlier being co-produced by choreographer-turned-filmmaker Ahmed Khan with Big Pictures. However, as per current developments, Eros International would be presenting the film.

Mean machine

His new look and physique, followed by the tag of the sexiest vegetarian in Asia by PETA, Shahid Kapoor is surely on the roll with four releases up his sleeve…

“Rumours and controversies are to be taken with a pinch of salt,” says 28-year-old Shahid Kapoor, who seems to have matured much before time. The actor says that he never takes whatever appears in the newspapers seriously. After Kareena Kapoor, he was linked up with Vidya Balan and then there were talks of a break-up with Priyanka Chopra with whom he was linked up with lately, followed by a buzz about director Ken Ghosh and he being up in arms against each other while shooting for the latter’s untitled film. “Actually I am a problem child. Wherever I step in, trouble starts brewing there. In fact, most of the fights that Ken and I have are whether or not he should eat non-vegetarian food whenever we go out for dinner together,” laughs Shahid , who has been adjudged as the sexiest vegetarian in Asia as per PETA. The poll was conducted by PETA in their Asia-Pacific portal. Shahid, however, reminded that this would be their third film together after Ishq Vishk and Fida and that they have always been good friends. “Friends have the right to fight and make up,” he grins.

Bollywood biggies lined up for release post-strike

Hindi movie buffs have quite a few reasons to cheer after a literally dry summer at the box office. As soon as the strike by film producers ends, there will be an array of big budget Bollywood films on offer - from Vishal Bharadwaj's "Kaminey" and Yash Raj Films' "New York" to Sajid Nadiadwala's "Kambhakkht Ishq" and Saif Ali Khan's "Love Aaj Kal".

The row between producers and multiplex owners over revenue sharing began in February. As a result, producers and distributors decided not to push any new releases in multiplexes after April 4.

So films that were due to release in May and June were pushed back. Industry sources now say that the tussle might end soon and, therefore, films with big star casts and huge budgets will release in close succession.

One of the much-awaited films is Bharadwaj's "Kaminey", which narrates the story of identical twins and their journey to fulfil their dreams. The film will see Shahid Kapur playing a double role for the first time and also stars Priyanka Chopra.

Shahid Kapur role in 'Paathshaala' different from Aamir's 'Taare Zameen Par': Ahmed Khan

Shahid Kapur's role as teacher in upcoming film Paathshaala is very different from Aamir Khans in Taare Zameen Par, says choreographer-turned-producer Ahmed Khan.

There is no similarity between Shahid's role in the film and Aamir's character in Taare Zameen Par. In his film, Aamir was dealing with one child who was dyslexic, but Shahid deals with many kids and basically with the whole education system in Paathshaala, Khan told IANS.

Paathshaala, directed by Milind Ukey, is Khans production debut and revolves around a group of troubled young students. And Shahid has not charged any fee.

Shahid and I are very good friends. We share a great rapport. When I told him about the film, he said he wanted to be a part of it even though the role wasn't long enough. He treats my wife like his sister; so as a goodwill gesture he decided not to charge any money for the role, Khan said.

Masterji's a heart-throb!

We kid you not, that's Shahid Kapoor playing a teacher in Ahmed Khan's film Paathshala. The role, he admitted, took him back to his own days as a student in Delhi's Gyan Bharti School. Shahid told BT on the occasion of Chilrden's Day, My friends and I were called the pillars of our class because we used to be forever standing outside. I was a very naughty kid and often got punished by my teachers.
